Being in a country is always the dream of people who like the tranquility of a small town.
The moment you enter the area, you would see well-groomed small winding roads with perfect sized gravels around, just like the ones in an aquarium. Having houses lined-up with small gardens at the front, bordered with white fence that any kid could jump over. Trees on the side of the roads. Some are almond trees, some are peach tree, some are just trees that you have never seen.
Everybody in the town knows each other. The grapevine would spread as fast as the blood pumping out from our hearts. Everybody greets each other, tease each other, but most importantly… care for each other.
Living in a house with well-furnished wooden floor, a wide wooden terrace with one swing at one end and a small set of table and chair on the other end for the evening tea or simply a morning coffee.
Children around riding their bicycles. Some girls are playing hide and seek, while another group of boys are playing football at a yard nearby. The day before has been rainy and one morning, the smell of the fresh soil and newly-blooming flowers accompany the day. Magnificent.
When you get sick, you are attended by the handsome doctor you have known, your best friend is rushing around to your house for a bowl of chicken soup and a bunch of lilacs, your other neighbors stop by and check how your health is progressing, a mother who would stay around… It may sound as if you would never have the time for yourself, but for a woman who had all the time in her life for only herself, this is something she has been craving for. She realizes that this is what she has wanted all her life.
When the night falls, you could hear the sound of owls and far away, the wolves are howling… the sun sets slowly as you sit around with old friends gulping a huge glass of iced lemon-tea with fresh home-made mocha cookies and potato chips with salsa, talking about the old times, gossiping, and simply talk your heart out.
Once in a while, an elderly who had known you for a long time would simply come and smooch you on your cheeks and left you as if you have dipped your face in a whale’s mouth. If you say it’s “yuck”, well, I shall say it’s “love”.
Once a while there would be a gathering, where a pile of glazed roast turkey is on set, with a massive bowl of salad; fish sticks; fresh-from-the-oven chocolate, peanut-butter, and pineapple muffins; fruit cocktail served in a huge glass bowl; and wine for the gentlemen.
It would be a hearty dinner, with a lot of laughter, baby-cries, and couples showing love to each other. At the end, the music is played and everyone started dancing. Well, some just simply don’t know how to do it, but it was another fun moment to watch the awkward.
Nothing matches a full stomach with good food, excellent company, good music, good laughter, a good environment, and an assurance that you are not alone in this stupid world. And the best thing is to know that no matter how wild-horse you have run, you would know that there would be one hand who would yank you down to your position and make you realize that sometimes all you need to do is to admit that you need a break from trying to be strong all the time and fall into a huge bear hug and lay your head there, knowing that you are safe even when the worlds collide.
